“And then he looked at me, so sweetly, and he said, ‘We have to act as God’s angels no matter what God does.’ That went right into my soul and I thought, ‘It’s not always easy to act as an angel of God when all around you is… seems anything but God.’ But that was the… that’s what he asked of us. That’s what the Guru asked of us.”– Sri Mrinalini Mata
Sri Mrinalani Mata reflected* on our Guru Paramahansa Yogananda’s special request to us. He asked that when things become challenging in our everyday lives and our larger world, that we recognize God’s protection and hand in it all, and continue to extend help, compassion, and kindness to others.
We find ourselves in the midst of a series of global events that are unprecedented during our lifetimes. Coronavirus has impacted all countries in the world whether directly or indirectly. Terms like “pandemic,” “lockdown,” and “underlying health conditions” are now commonplace in our vocabularies. Schools and businesses in many countries have been ordered to close. But within the midst of it all “God’s angels” have been busy!
What a blessing it is to still be able to attend Self-Realization Fellowship/Yogoda Satsanga Society of India (SRF/YSS) commemorative services and meditations through the SRF Online Meditation Center. Some of us have come together with coworkers to adjust our daily routines to continue serving our customers, clients, and students. It’s been a time of receiving invitations to virtual singalongs, links to online workouts, and offers for grocery sharing and dog walking. We’ve caught up with family and friends by phone, text, video conference, and in the ether! Still, many of us have real concerns about health, mental wellness, joblessness, and making ends meet. But, these concerns stand alongside a new appreciation of the precious moments in our days, our special connections with others, our responsibility to our world family, and the urgent need to find stability within our inner world in God. And that leaves us standing here with the opportunity to choose to be God’s angels and spread God’s light, hope, and kindness, no matter what God does.
Master says that “In being of spiritual, mental, and material service to others, you will find your own needs fulfilled. As you forget self in service to others, you will find that, without seeking it, your own cup of happiness will be full.”**

Note: Self-Realization Fellowship has also created a new web page listing SRF online resources for coping with the current world situation — to help SRF/YSS members and friends reinforce and support their spiritual effort, and increase a sense of divine protection and understanding at this difficult time, or at any time. This page includes links to inspirational letters and videos from SRF/YSS President, Brother Chidananda, as well as links to weekly Sunday service lectures from SRF/YSS monastics.
